The Youth Caterpillar Project:
Seeing young people as the butterflies they are becoming
rather than just as the caterpillars they are

"When some people see a young man stood on a corner or a young girl on the bus, they simply see a 'caterpillar'.
They see the young person as what they currently are or what they believe them to be, rather than what they can potentially become. However for us at The Youth Caterpillar Project, each child and young person is a caterpillar...
a caterpillar on its journey towards becoming a butterfly." - Novena-Chanel Davies, Founder and Director
The Youth Caterpillar Project is a non-for-profit service that supports young people and their families through therapeutic services, psycho-education, training and empowerment. Our services are low-cost and/or free to those who are on low incomes or unemployed in order to address the exclusion of families and young people from deprived areas, and bridge the gap between those who are able to access quality, professional, safe and confidential support.
The Project works to give children and young people a sense of fulfillment, esteem and accomplishment through Youth Mentoring, Youth Life Coaching, Counselling and a specialized Parent(s)-to-Teen Family Mediation Service. The project facilitates Workshops on Child Development and Parenting Skills, Wellbeing and Health, Budgeting and Life Skills, Gangs and Youth Inclusion and offers tailored Counselling Services to Young People, Teachers and Youth Workers in their Schools and Community Projects. We also work with local businesses to provide work trials and skills training to our youth members who are between the ages of 16 -21 and have successfully completed our mentoring programme. Our Founder and Managing Director, Novena-Chanel Davies, established The Youth Caterpillar Project after surviving youth homelessness at the age of 15 and later working within the Charity Sector with children and young people. Novena-Chanel’s earlier experiences enabled her to gain a deeper awareness into youth homelessness, family conflicts and the issues that many young people face during adolescents. She therefore decided to set up a service that offered a safe haven to young people and their families, and created an environment where they could be inspired and supported in growing towards their full potentials. This saw the beginning of some of The Youth Caterpillar
Project’s work in 1997 and it’s official incorporation in May 2011. Read More
